  19. 1. DESCRIPTION
  20.  
  21. The crossword puzzle is the most widely played word  game, which is familiar
  22. to everyone.  This program combines that entertainment while providing puzzles
  23. with educational value.  Features include saving and restoring of incomplete
  24. puzzles, printing puzzles, word auto check, clue auto advance, word hints
  25. (vowels, consonants, letters), and background style patterns.

  27. 2. PROGRAM OPERATION
  28.  
  29. Command Buttons:
  30. Load .............. Opens a dialog box to select a puzzle to load into memory.
  31. Save .............. Saves the currently loaded partially solved puzzle for
  32.                     later restore.  
  33. Rest .............. Opens a dialog box to restore a previously saved puzzle.
  34. Clear ............. Clears the currently loaded puzzle, you will be prompt to
  35.                     save it, if not completed.
  36. Print ............. Prints the currently loaded puzzle to the Windows default
  37.                     printer.  The puzzle may be printed without answers,
  38.                     partially solved, or with answers.
  39. Options ........... Set program options and the background style.
  40.  
  41. Options:
  42. Auto Advance ...... Enables word auto advance upon completion of a word.
  43. Auto Check ........ Enables word auto check,  this will set the word bold, if
  44.                     it is correct.  A progress bar indicates the percentage
  45.                     of the puzzle which is completed.
  46. Hints ............. Enables the Hints Panel Buttons (Vow, Con, Let).  This
  47.                     allows 20% of the total Vowels, Consonants, and Letters
  48.                     from the loaded puzzle as hints.

  50. Keyboard Functions:
  51. Page Up/Down ...... Used to select Across , or Down,  clue list boxes.
  52. Arrow Up/Down ..... Used to select a individual clue within a list box.
  53. Arrow Left/Right... Used to select a individual letter within a word.  The
  54.                     word is highlighted light gray and the letter is
  55.                     highlighted cyan.

  57. Mouse Functions ... You can use the mouse to select word positions or word
  58.                     clues.  Selecting a clue highlights the word position,
  59.                     selecting a word position highlights the clue.

  61. 3. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  64. 4 meg RAM or better
  65. Microsoft Windows 3.1 or Windows 95
  66. VGA or SVGA monitor
  67. 1.5 meg of free disk space for program files

  81. There are two methods available for installation:
  82.  
  83. To install directly from the hard disk: 
  84. Using the File Manager, locate the directory where you expanded (unzipped) the
  85. program files.  Double-click on 'SETUP.EXE' and then follow the instructions
  86. provided.  After you have successfully installed the CXWORD program, you can
  87. delete CXWORD23.ZIP and the installation files from your hard drive, as they
  88. are no longer required.

  90. To create a installation diskette:
  91. You will need a 1.44 Mb blank formatted diskette. Label the diskette as
  92. "CXWORD, ver 2.3" and copy all the installation files to the diskette.  Using
  93. the File Manager, choose Run from the File menu.  Type A:SETUP and select OK,
  94. and then follow the instructions provided.  After you have successfully
  95. installed the CXWORD program, you can delete CXWORD23.ZIP and the installation
  96. files from your hard drive, as they are no longer required.

  109. VBRUN300.DLL and THREED.VBX will be installed in your \windows\system
  110. directory if they do not exist, or if the existing installed files are not
  111. current versions.  All other files are installed in the selected installation
  112. directory (CXWORD).

  114. 6. PROGRAM REGISTRATION
  115.  
  116. This program is a unregistered version for evaluation use only.  It is
  117. distributed as Shareware,  which is based on the honor principal allowing
  118. you to try before you buy.  You may use this program for a trial period of 14
  119. days at no cost. You will only have access to the 1st puzzle in each of the
  120. current 12 puzzle files.  If you continue to use it beyond the trial period,
  121. you are required to pay a registration fee of $10.00.  Upon doing so, you will
  122. receive a registration code by mail,  with instructions to register the
  123. program.  This will allow you to access all 201 currently available  puzzles,
  124. and the removal of  the registration reminder screen.

  138. 8. UNINSTALLING
  139.  
  140. Delete the CXWORD directory, this will delete all files contained within the
  141. directory.  Do not delete VBRUN300.DLL and THREED.VBX from your windows\system
  142. directory, as these may be used by other applications that you may have
  143. previously installed.
